Boston, Bombs & Love Part 2

Apr. 21st 2014

Eclipse. One year anniversary of Boston Marathon bombing. Memorial services. Snow.  It was one hell of a week.

Raw emotions deeply buried surfaced again.  Tears flowed. The depth of the communal heartbreak once again revealed.

Last year, the Boston Marathon was marred by a horrific tragedy. Today millions will join 36,000 runners in celebrating the rising of resilience, determination, hope and love.

If you see me on Hereford Street, in the spot where Team In Training alumni faithfully gather, don’t be surprised if my mascara is smeared and my eyes are filled with tears…. of love…for each and every runner who trained through one of the longest, coldest winters I can remember…for their families who supported them when training (or exhaustion) cut into family time…for Krystle Campbell, Martin Richard, Lingzi Lu and Sean Collier…and for all whose lives changed forever on a warm, sunny afternoon in Boston.

“She said she usually cried at least once each day not because she was sad, but because the world was so beautiful and life was so short.”  - Brian Andreas

The collective heartbeat in Boston feels like a Phoenix rising from the ashes with a renewed sense of determination.   Today, as Boston takes back the finish line, I urge you to join us in going the extra distance to be of service to others.  Silence the voices that say “too busy” or “what could I possibly do”.   Practice Kindness.  Understanding. Compassion.  Love.
